Altenberg presents logo and website for BMW IBSF World Championships 2021

Altenberg (RWH) In three months' time, at the beginning of February 2021, the BMW IBSF World Championships 2021 will begin in Altenberg (GER) - that's what the sports calendar of the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF) currently says. The organisers in Altenberg have now presented the logo for the event, which for the first time in the history of the sport will take place on the same track two years apart: In September, the IBSF had decided to move the World Championships from Lake Placid (USA) to Altenberg, which had already hosted the World Championships in 2020, due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

"We are grateful for the great confidence the IBSF has shown in us to organise a World Championships so quickly and under these difficult conditions," said Jens Morgenstern, head of the Altenberg track, in a press release. "However, in view of the COVID19 pandemic, everyone must be aware of one thing: the 2021 World Championships will be completely different from the 2020 event, as they will be held under strict hygiene conditions.

Whether spectators can be admitted to the 2021 BMW IBSF World Championships is currently still completely unclear. Jens Morgenstern: "It would be pure speculation to make a definitive statement on this today. We have two planning scenarios: Option 1 with a small number of spectators and option 2 completely without spectators. The final outcome will of course depend on the incidence of infection and the associated conditions. We are in constant communication with the local health authorities, who are very supportive in these matters". The hygiene concept of the tracks is based on the IBSF COVID-19 guidelines.

A total of seven World Championship titles will be awarded in Altenberg between February 1 and 14, 2021, one more than in 2020. In addition to the well-known World Championship disciplines of 2-woman Bobsleigh, 2-man Bobsleigh, Women's Skeleton, Men's Skeleton, 4-man Bobsleigh and Skeleton Mixed Team, for the first time a World Champion in Women’s Monobob will be crowned in Altenberg.

All information regarding the BMW IBSF World Championships 2021 will be announced on the new website www.wm-altenberg.de.
